The
article discusses about the mayor of Toronto whom apologizes for making crude
comments, the various rumors floating around about him, and his new TV show
that he will be hosting. This story violates two principles of journalism which
are the following: making the important interesting and fairness.
The
principle of making the important interesting is violated because the article
highlights rumors that naturally begin to float around a controversial public
figure. The article seems to blow up the topic for sensation. Instead of
talking about all the various rumors, the journalist who wrote this could have investigated
to see which rumors were true or not.
The
second principle violated was fairness since the article only offered one side
of the story, which was the side that did not support the mayor. Obviously,
this was not fair. The article quotes people who spoke negatively about the
mayor, but there was not one quote from someone who supported the mayor.
